Today Molly has something really special for us with the stamp set Let the Light Shine. Welcome Molly!!!
Hello! I am so excited to be this month’s Guest Designer on the Joy Clair blog! One of my favorite things to do is to document my faith, both in my artwork and in my journaling Bible. As the majority of my Bible journaling is mixed-media and watercolor, I don’t always have the room on the page for the journaling part of the process. To be able to journal on specific verses, I like to use smaller inserts that I attach to my decorated Bible page with washi tape, which is what I did for this project.
I chose the verse Matthew 5:16, as it is one of my very favorite verses, and coordinates beautifully with the Let the Light Shine stamp set.
Here’s how I made it:
Supplies:
- 3” x 6” piece of watercolor paper
- Crop-A-Dile Corner Chomper (optional)
- Ranger embossing ink
- Ranger embossing powder in seafoam white
- Heat tool
- Watercolor paints and brush
- Small spray water bottle/mister
- Micron Pigma black ink pen
- Washi tape
Instructions:
- Use the Ranger embossing ink and seafoam white embossing powder to stamp the designs on both sides of my watercolor paper and then use the heat tool on it.
- (optional) round off the corners of the page using the Crop-A-Dile Corner Chomper
- Lightly spray side one of the paper with the mister
- Color wash side one with a light yellow paint and allow it to dry slightly. Now use a deep purple to go around the stamp images, one at a time. When you are finished with each image, spray that area with the mister and let the paint to its thing. It will start to spread out from the stamped image in a cool, unpredictable way. Allow this side to dry (or use your heat tool to dry it if you are impatient like me) and do the same for side two.
- You may notice that your paper is curling up on you. This is normal. Just gently bend the paper back into shape while it is warm from your heat gun and it should be ok.
- Next, use your pen to outline your stamped images and to doodle on the page. For my insert, I chose to write the verse on side one and my journaling thoughts on side two.
- When you are all done, use your washi tape to secure the insert onto your page and – voila – you’re finished!
Thank you so much for letting me share this project with you! Check out all the fantastic Color By Faith stamps from Joy Clair and go out and document your faith!
Fabulous page Molly! The coloring on the page is gorgeous and I love the Tip-in that you added for journaling. The contrast of the page to the Tip-in sets it off and makes me just want to interact with your page. GORGEOUS! :)
