While I love the look of die cuts, every now and then I like to use my electronic cutting machine to help make my cards. This time, I'm showing you two very different ways that my cutting machine helped me out. The first card is more advanced, but was so much fun mixing digital designs with the new Refuel My Soul stamp set. The second card I kept very simple in design and only used my cutting machine to create circle to go along with the adorable house in the Gnome is Where the Heart is stamp set.
Refuel My Soul
This has to be one of my favorite cards that I have made so far. I have a background in Graphic Design, so anytime I can play around with designs on the computer, and then mix it with handmade designs, is a win in my book! After picking out some fun patterned paper, I found a handful of matching designs within my electronic cutting machine design shop. I started by playing around with the objects to see where they would work best, and ended up doing a print and cut of some of the designs right on the background, and others I did print and cut of the design itself.
I also cut out the fuel gauge and car stamp on patterned paper using my machine, and then stamped onto them.
Then, I used my MISTI to stamp the sentiment onto my background piece, on the lower right corner with navy blue ink.
Now it's time to put it all together. I used foam dots to adhere the fuel gauge, car, and arrows to the background. Lastly, I used double sided tape to place my card piece on top of a coordinating patterned paper for a boarder, and then placed that onto my card.
I love mixing mediums and processes to create such a fun card. The Refuel My Soul stamp set has so many amazing stamps included that you can create some wonderful designs!
Gnome is Where the Heart is
This simple card can be done with or without an electronic cutting machine, but since I didn't have circle dies and my circle punches wouldn't reach the appropriate places, I decided to use mine.
The first step was to use a wood grain embossing folder on a piece of white cardstock. Then, I used my electronic cutting machine to create 1.5" and 1" circles in the center of my card. I did use my circle punches first so that I could get a feel of where I'd like the circle to be in conjunction with my house stamp.
Then, I used this beautiful Broken China blue oxide ink to create the background that I adhered behind the white paper.
Next, I used my MISTI to stamp the house and fence from the Gnome is Where the Heart is stamp set. I then fussy cut both objects. I used my Prisma Color pencils to create a bright, fun, charming little house that looked great in front of the blue circles. I adhered both to the front using foam dots.
Lastly, I added the sentiment and the two adorable little gnomes into the inside of the card using my MISTI.
This is such an adorable card for either a Welcome Home or New Home gift. I love the simplicity of the design, mixed with the fun circular background.
I had so much fun creating both of these cards using the Refuel My Soul and the Gnome is Where the Heart is stamp sets. I hope these cards inspire you to use your electronic cutting machine for card making as well as other fun crafts!
Happy Crafting,
