Hello everyone!! It's Lindsay from the DT here with you today, sharing some Bible Journaling and a few techniques as well. As I get more comfortable with my journaling, I've started experimenting a little bit with more color and using different products that I would normally reserve for my cardmaking. When I first started stamping with the Armor of God stamp set I had enough room for a two page spread, so I had a lot of space to play around with. After stamping all of my knights I knew I wanted to add some sparkle and shine, so I pulled out my Perfect Pearls and Distress Inks to create a Monochromatic two page spread with quite a lot of (simple) hand doodling. Be sure to watch the video tutorial below for all the details!
The Armor of God stamp set coordinates with Ephesians 6:10-18, which is where I decided to do all of my stamping. Because I knew I would be watercoloring all of my stamped images, I pulled out a black waterproof dye ink. Beginning with the "Put on the Armor of God", I stamped it on the left hand page, in the left margin, at the very top, then, right below that sentiment I stamped the fully put together knight. While I let the ink on this page dry, I moved onto stamping the right hand page. Included in the Armor of God Stamp set is not only a fully assembled knight image, but also individual images that when put together make up a knight. After laying out the images and spacing them out correctly, I picked them up and stamped them down individually so everything would be placed in it's exact spot. With my stamping done, up to this point, it was time to start watercoloring in my images.
I really wanted a monochromatic coloring scheme for my knights so I pulled out Distress Inks in Black Soot, Hickory Smoke, and Pumice Stone. I smooshed the inks onto my palette (a piece of white card stock that I laminated) and into each of the inks I added a scoop of Perfect Pearls Powder in Pearl. After adding a few drops of water to each color and mixing it up, I was left with a very shiny watercolor! I used the three different watercolors I had mixed up to color in the images on both pages, making sure to start on the left hand page to give the ink on the right side time to dry.
After my watercolor was completely dry, I used each of the words in the stamp set to stamp over their coordinating parts on the individual knight parts. For instance I stamped "Truth" over the belt in black dye ink, "Faith" on the shield, "Spirit" on the sword and so on. This is where I planned to stop, however, as I looked at my pages I really wasn't happy with them and they looked much too plain. To add a lot more interest to both pages, I brought out my Micron pen and started adding some hand doodling. Now I am no artist I kept it strictly to dots, dashes, and lines. However, even very simple hand doodling really brought interest and depth to my pages that were just much too simple beforehand! Finally, I had a mis-stamp in the top right hand corner on the right side of the page. I had stamped "The Gospel of Peace" and it really belonged on the knight's feet. To fix this I cut a black card stock circle, stamped the cross image from the stamp set in Versamark ink in the center of it, and then filled it in Enamel Accents in Glacier White. After securing it down over the mistake with fun foam and double sided adhesive, I added some doodling around it as well to fit in with the design of the pages.
I really am having such a blast experimenting and playing with different products and techniques in my journaling! I hope you all enjoyed today's video tutorial and will give some hand doodling and watercolor with perfect pearls a try! Until next time, Happy Crafting!!
